Griselda

My name is Griselda González Navichoc, and I come from San Pedro la Laguna, Sololá, a pueblo on the shore of Lake Atitlan. I speak the Tzutujuil language, which is not used in many places in the department. I am twenty years old. My parents are Antonio González Tuch and Marta Navichoc Cotuc. I have two brothers and a sister.

I completed primary school, junior high, and high school at the Our Lady of Succor Institute in Antigua, Guatemala. I entered into Centro Maya's scholarship program in 1998 and am now studying law. I like this career path because it's a open field for indigenous women like myself who want to help protect our Maya culture. With my work I want to help change the legal system to correct the situation of discrimination and marginalization of indígenas in our country.
