and cultural studies in weaving, natural medicine, and Indigenous Maya Spirituality.

AnaI am Ana María Castañeda. I was born in the Q'anjob'al pueblo of San Eulalia, Huehuetenango the 29th of May in 1980. My parents are DomingoCastañeda and María Diego. I have six brothers and one sister, and I am the fifth child in my family.

With very much work, my parents have provided us with primary and secondary educations. And my brothers, who still study in the university, are working to sustain themselves.

My own primary school studies were in my pueblo. When I began junior high studies, I went to a boarding school in Sololá. Later, for high school, I attended the Instituto Católico Socorro (the Institute of Catholic Aid) in Antigua, Guatemala, where I graduated with the degree of Teacher of Urban Primary Education.

Just this year, in 2000, Centro Maya awarded me a scholarship for agronomy studies here in Quetzaltenango. I chose to study agronomy because my pueblo is preeminently agricultural and it is my desire to help improve agricultural practices there after I graduate. Ana Maria has one more year of University Class Work left before she can return to Santa Eulalia as an agronomist. ¡Please help make sure she can continue with a gift to the Señoritas Becadas Program!
